What Keeps You

RUNNING?

What Keeps You

RUNNING?

That’s a pretty good question many should ask themselves. But for me, I keep running because it is my love. It has been a passion of mine since I was 5 years old. Growing up in a small town in Trinidad, I didn’t have the resources nor was able to take advantage of my true athletic ability at a very young age. I simply just chased my older brother, Charles Clement, and that developed my speed and endurance. But I wanted more, I knew there were a lot more opportunities out there for me to get better as an athlete. Then an opportunity presented itself, my Grandmother Theresa Thomas migrated my family and I to the States in the winter of 1998. It was a dream come true, I immediately enrolled myself in athletics at La Porte High School. And quickly became a high school standout. There were some moments within my high school years that I almost wanted to quit athletics; simply because of a reoccurring knee injury I sustained while in Trinidad. It was simply unbearable, but I thank my high school coach, Michael Mosley for believing in my talent and seeing the gift that I could not have seen at that moment in my life. If I had made my own decision in high school to stop running simply because it hurts, I would not have been the person I am today nor accomplish the things that I have done. It is simply by the grace of God and giving me favor with man. After graduating high school, I attended the University of Florida for only 2 years. At that moment in my life again, God once again had pour down his blessings, I had signed my first professional Nike contract in 05′. There were times were I felt so overwhelm, that I am living a dream. But I continued to get better, and strive to be the best. Within the span of 5 years I had became; 2-time USA Champion (400mH 05′ & 06′), World Record Holder (400 meter indoors 05′), 2 time World Champion (07′ & 09) and 2008 Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist. I will continue to TRUST GOD and have FAITH that my work on the track is not done. I have written down my goals and dreams for the 2011 and 2012 season. And I will fight and win this battle. “No weapon that is form against me shall prosper”

With much love,

Kerron Clement
